Previously Eric raced in the Tornado class catamaran and was a member the Canadian Sailing Team from 2001 to 2004 with teammate Mark Coakley from Nova Scotia. After an exciting four years, which included winning the selection to the 2003 pre-Olympic event, the team fell short of their objective by finishing second at the Canadian Olympic trials in 2004.
